Akua Donkor, the founder and leader of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), passed away at Ridge Hospital in Accra. Details surrounding her death have not yet been disclosed.

She passed away on Monday, October 28th, as confirmed by a family member.

Known as the founder of the GFP, she became renowned for her bold and outspoken advocacy for local community issues, capturing public interest with her fearless approach.
Despite facing financial constraints, Akua Donkor has persistently run for the presidency, showcasing her determination and perseverance throughout her career.
Akua Donkor, who has run for office twice before, has been positioned as the third candidate on the ballot for the 2024 presidential election. The conclusion of a significant period in Ghana’s political landscape is symbolized by the end of her life.
She first stepped into politics as the Assemblywoman for Herman, after being chosen by the former GFP leader. Her journey towards the presidency started from there. In 2012, she decided to make a bid for the presidency by submitting an application to run as an independent candidate.
The Electoral Commission disqualified her due to her failure to meet the eligibility requirements. Akua Donkor objected to the decision but ultimately decided against taking legal action. Rather than giving her endorsement, she chose to back Papa Kwesi Nduom of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP).
In 2016, she experienced another threat of disqualification when the headquarters of her political party, the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), located in Kabu, Eastern Region, was destroyed by fire in January.
