Ghanaian media figure and vocalist Afua Asantewaa has once again failed to secure the Guinness World Record for the longest individual singing marathon, following a review of her second attempt by the record officials.
In an official statement, the Guinness World Records (GWR) team confirmed that her record attempt was deemed invalid due to breaches of the official rest break regulations.
According to GWR guidelines, a participant is permitted 5 minutes of rest for every continuous hour of performance, a rule that Afua’s team was found to have violated.
Specifically, GWR highlighted two instances that resulted in disqualification: ‘At 23:25 during sequence 19, Afua reportedly took a 15-minute break, when she was only entitled to 5 minutes of rest.
Later, during sequence 21, she took a 105-minute break, despite having only 10 minutes of accrued rest time.’
These infractions, GWR explained, rendered it impossible to validate the attempt, as fairness and strict compliance with the rules are essential for all record claims.
Despite this setback, Afua Asantewaa remains hopeful. In a heartfelt message, she expressed her gratitude to Ghanaians and her international supporters for their steadfast encouragement throughout both of her record attempts.
‘It’s been a challenging yet rewarding journey.
Exploring my potential on the Guinness World Records platform has led to growth, discovery, and transformative experiences,’ she shared.
She also thanked her team and sponsors, including Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II and other corporate sponsors for their support.
Although this marks her second unsuccessful attempt, Afua Asantewaa affirmed that her journey is far from over.
