The delivery of Christmas hampers ceased following my defeat in 2016, stated Mahama

President-elect John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his commitment to a grounded style of leadership, asserting that he remains unaffected by the temptations of power or the transient benefits associated with high office.

During a thanksgiving service held at the Assemblies of God Church in Accra on Sunday, December 15, Mahama shared insights from the humbling experiences he has encountered throughout his political career.

He highlighted the necessity of remaining attuned to the realities of leadership, even following his significant victory in the December 7 general elections.

The President-elect also took this opportunity to advocate for unity and collaborative efforts, encouraging Ghanaians to join him in addressing the nation’s challenges.

In his remarks at the Thanksgiving service, Mahama expressed his appreciation for the support he received during his time out of office, noting that “the Christmas hampers ceased to arrive” after his defeat in the 2016 elections.

“When I lost in 2016, the Christmas hampers ceased to arrive. The numerous individuals who used to visit my home and seek a moment with me stopped coming. Only my siblings, family, closest friends, and church members remained steadfastly by my side.

“For me, these trappings of power do not influence my mindset. I understand that the accolades and blessings bestowed upon you by others are fleeting, and they are merely a result of the title of president attached to your name. One day, that title will fade.”

Mahama also took the occasion to express his gratitude to Ghanaians for their overwhelming confidence in him, pledging to lead with humility and a renewed sense of purpose.

He emphasized that his success in the 2024 elections should not be seen as a chance for personal acclaim but rather as a mandate to diligently work for the advancement of the nation.
