Suspects in Awutu Senya East shooting case taken into custody

The Ghana Police Service has detained four individuals in connection with a shooting incident that took place in the Awutu Senya East Constituency of the Central Region. The suspects, identified as Awudu Yakubu, Kwabena Essah, Hakeem Bawa, and Issaka Mashual, are currently in custody and are cooperating with the ongoing investigations. This incident resulted in one fatality and left another person injured.

Among the items seized from the suspects was an AK-47 rifle, which was found loaded with 69 rounds of ammunition. The injured individual is receiving medical treatment, while the body of the deceased has been transported to the morgue for preservation and autopsy.

The Ghana Police Service has reassured the public that all incidents are being thoroughly investigated and that measures are being implemented to ensure peace and order during the current election period. According to a police statement, “The four suspects are currently in custody assisting the police with investigations.”

The shooting incident specifically targeted the vehicle of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate in the Awutu Senya East Constituency. This tragic event reportedly unfolded near the candidate’s residence, instilling fear within the local community.

Eyewitnesses indicated that the incident began as a heated argument among party supporters before it escalated into violence, with gunmen opening fire on the candidate’s vehicle.

Earlier that same day, an unrelated shooting incident occurred at Odupongpehe Zion Park, resulting in one injury. This altercation, linked to a chieftaincy dispute, took place near a polling station. The suspect was involved in a disagreement with another individual, which ultimately led to the shooting. The gunfire missed the intended target and struck an innocent bystander instead.
