Bawumia opens more than 1,000 affordable homes in Tema

The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has introduced a detailed plan to tackle the housing shortage in the country and improve the land administration system, with the goal of boosting economic growth and development.

 On Monday, Dr. Bawumia opened two important projects: the new Lands Commission headquarters in Accra and more than 1,000 affordable housing units in Tema, Community 26.

 Dr. Bawumia spoke at the commissioning of the new Lands Commission Head Office in Accra. Bawumia emphasized the importance of a good land administration system for Ghana’s economic and social development.

 He stated that Ghana’s land sector plays a critical role in our economy, shaping the development of our communities, cities, and nation.

 The Vice President pointed out that about 90% of the population in Ghana depends on land for their livelihoods, as shown in data from the Ghana Statistical Service.

 Therefore, a well-functioning land administration system is necessary for sustainable economic development, social cohesion, and a strong investment climate. He stressed the importance of prioritizing the development of a strong and up-to-date land administration system.

 Dr. Bawumia described the government’s efforts to modernize land administration over the past eight years using three main pillars: modern office infrastructure, digitalization and automation of business processes, and a well-trained staff.

 He was hopeful that the new Lands Commission headquarters would solve problems in the sector and improve productivity.

Dr. Bawumia opened more than 1,000 affordable homes in Tema, Community 26, to help decrease Ghana’s housing shortage. He introduced the government’s new housing policy called “Decade of Housing.

We have observed the impact of the year of roads in Ghana. With God’s blessing, I hope to bring in a decade focused on housing. He announced that we have a decade to address our housing needs in Ghana.

 The Vice President said the government will use a private-public partnership financing model to address housing challenges effectively and sustainably.

 With these efforts, Dr. Bawumia hopes to improve the situation. Bawumia confirmed the government’s dedication to enhancing infrastructure and generating opportunities for all Ghanaians.
