A military officer has been detained for allegedly raping an 18-year-old girl at the Siim Lina Guest House in Soe, a suburb of the Bolgatanga Municipality, on Monday, September 2, 2024.
The event has caused public outcry and prompted worries over the conduct of security personnel.
According to the victim (name withheld), the soldier arrived at the guesthouse at 9 a.m. to check in. Shortly after, he expressed love feelings for her, which she declined.
The victim stated that a woman, whom she believes to be the soldier’s girlfriend, later came at the guest house on a tricycle. However, the woman did not stay for long and left the premises soon after her arrival.
In a terrifying description, the victim revealed how the situation worsened after the woman left. She claimed the soldier threatened her with a pair of scissors, threatening to stab her if she did not agree with his request for sex.
Fearing for her safety, the victim, who had only been working at the guest house for four days, reluctantly agreed to his demands, and the soldier allegedly raped her. Following the assault, the soldier allegedly took photos of her with his phone.
The victim, who has been traumatized by the incident, wants the proper authorities to take action against the culprit.
The owner of the guest house, Paulina Adongo, verified the occurrence, adding that the soldier was captured by concerned neighbors after the victim raised an alarm.
Military officers from the Abilba Barracks were dispatched to the scene and arrested the suspected rapist.
The heinous act has shocked the community, prompting calls for a thorough inquiry.
The military has yet to publish a formal comment on the subject, but sources say an inquiry has begun to determine the facts and proper measures were taken.
