The National Peace Council has expressed the hope that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) will eventually sign the peace accord for this year’s election.
The council believes that the party has not categorically refused to sign the document, although raising reasonable issues that will be addressed.
The party has set out particular conditions that must be met before they will consider participating in the exercise.
National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has expressed reservations about the success of previous peace deals, claiming that they have failed to achieve their goals.
But speaking to newsmen in Accra, the Chairman of the National Peace Council, Dr Ernest Adu-Gyamfi, expressed confidence that the NDC will eventually participate in the peace process.
“The NDC has not categorically refused to sign. They have raised some concerns, and we will meet with them to discuss these issues and work towards resolving them.
“I don’t think this is something we need to be overly concerned about. Our doors are always open. We engage with the parties, we listen to them, and we seek solutions to address their grievances.
“Those within our capacity, we will address. Some matters may be beyond our control, but we remain hopeful that they will sign the pact,” he said.
