The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama has taken a swipe at the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General Godfred Dame.
Commenting on the decision by the Attorney General to challenge the decision by the Court of Appeal to acquit and discharge Dr. Cassie Ato Forson, Mr. Mahama opined that the entire case was based on malicious prosecution.
The Court of Appeal has discharged the Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, from the ongoing ambulance case.
The Court of Appeal’s decision has therefore overturned the previous order from the trial court, which ordered Dr. Ato Forson to present his defence.
It has also set aside the trial court’s directive, delivered by Justice Afia Serwaa Asare Botwe, which had dismissed Ato Forson’s submission of no case.
The ruling of the court was a 2-1 majority decision today (July 30, 2024).
The second highest court of the land held that the prosecution handling the case did not establish a prima facie case for the Minority Leader to answer.
But Godfred Dame has served notice of his decision to challenge the matter at the Supreme Court.
But Mr. Mahama, in his reaction, advised the Attorney General to back off the case.
Speaking to Journalist, he asserted that the outcome of the decision vindicates the innocence of Dr. Forson.
He maintained that the case is malicious and the Attorney General has been discredited, adding that he has demonstrated that he is someone pursuing the agenda of the ruling NPP.
