The National Youth Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is scheduled to hold a demonstration today, Tuesday, November 3, to protest what it refers to as alleged corruption, a lack of transparency, and the government’s failure to deliver on key campaign promises made to the citizens of Ghana.
This protest, titled the “Yegyeyɛ Sika Demo,” is anticipated to unite members and supporters of the opposition party, particularly its youth faction, in demanding accountability from the government regarding several pressing national issues.
A significant emphasis of the demonstration will be the demand for increased transparency concerning the government’s recent evacuation operation in South Africa, with the NPP youth wing seeking a comprehensive report on the funds reportedly designated for this initiative.
The protest is also expected to underscore concerns regarding the management of public resources and what the organizers perceive as inconsistencies in the government’s financial dealings.
According to the NPP youth wing, this demonstration is part of their initiative to hold the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration accountable for its actions and to ensure that public officials maintain transparency in their duties.
In an interview prior to the protest, Emmanuel Senyo Amekplenu, the NPP Volta Regional Youth Organiser, urged young Ghanaians to join the demonstration, emphasizing that citizens should not remain apathetic when issues regarding the management of public funds arise.
“If it were your money, you would not permit such occurrences. If it were your business, you would not allow such things to happen to your company. Therefore, as a responsible Minority, the youth wing of the New Patriotic Party is spearheading the call for the honorable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa to provide an account to the Ghanaian populace.
We seek clarification regarding the GH¢49.7 million allocated to Ablakwa. What is the actual status of these funds? Were there any transposition errors? Did any accounting mistakes occur while reconciling the accounts? We would like to understand.
