The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has initiated a formal inquiry into an alleged extortion matter involving a Customs official deployed at the Accra International Airport (AIA).
The investigation was prompted by a video distributed across social media platforms in which content creator Lady Rev. Adwoa Pretty asserted that a Customs official at the airport demanded GH¢600 from her without furnishing an official receipt.
Within the video, she articulated apprehensions regarding the circumstances of the payment and the professional conduct exhibited by the officer in question.
The allegations have subsequently garnered considerable social media attention, compelling the GRA to issue an official statement and provide assurances to the public that the matter is undergoing thorough investigation.
In an official communication, the GRA acknowledged receipt of the video and the allegations presented therein.
“The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has acknowledged a video circulating on social media by a content creator identified as Lady Rev. Adwoa Pretty. In the video, she asserts that a Customs Officer stationed at the Accra International Airport collected GH¢600 from her without providing a receipt.”
“The GRA wishes to assure the public that the Authority has initiated an investigation into this matter and will communicate the findings to the general public upon completion.”
The GRA has refrained from disclosing the identity of the Customs officer allegedly implicated or furnishing additional particulars regarding the specific circumstances of the incident.
The Authority further emphasized that its operations are governed by principles of integrity, accountability, and professionalism, and affirmed its commitment to ensuring these standards are maintained by all personnel.
“The GRA remains dedicated to maintaining integrity, accountability, and professionalism in the execution of its institutional mandate.”
