The Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, has instructed the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service to furnish comprehensive data regarding all teachers who have received promotions to the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department no later than the conclusion of the current week.
He explained that this directive aims to expedite the disbursement of salaries and outstanding payments due to educators who were promoted by October.
This action comes subsequent to discussions conducted with striking teacher unions concerning the protracted delays in addressing their grievances.
Mr. Iddrisu has made an appeal to the unions to terminate the strike while the government proceeds with efforts to address their concerns.
Notwithstanding this appeal, the striking teacher unions have indicated that they will maintain their strike action following their consultation with the Education Minister.
The organizations participating in the strike include the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), and the Pre-Tertiary Teachers Association of Ghana (PRETAG).
