The government has revealed its intention to create new Community Day Schools in Nima and Kasoa as part of the Secondary Education Transformation for Access, Relevance and Results (STARR-J) Project.
The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, stated that this initiative aims to broaden access to quality secondary education and to tackle existing infrastructure deficiencies in the sector.
During a press conference at the Government Accountability Series on Monday, July 20, Mr. Iddrisu emphasized that President John Dramani Mahama has highlighted the importance of promoting the establishment of additional Community Day Schools, modeled after the one in Kwabenya.
“President Mahama believes that we should promote the creation of Community Day Schools similar to the one in Kwabenya. We will construct one in Nima and another in Kasoa as part of the STARR-J Project,” he remarked.
He further mentioned that the STARR-J Project will also facilitate inclusive education, with Ho in the Volta Region set to receive a new Special Needs Education facility.
He explained that this facility will offer extra support for students with disabilities in the region and enhance access to specialized educational services.
“I am pleased to announce that under the STARR-J Project, Ho in the Volta Region will gain a new Special Needs Education facility to assist learners with disabilities in that area,” he added.
The STARR-J Project is anticipated to enhance secondary education infrastructure, increase accessibility, and improve the relevance of educational delivery across senior high schools, senior high technical schools, and TVET institutions in Ghana.
