Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director Henry Asante Twum has confirmed that the new head coach of the Black Stars, Carlos Queiroz, will incorporate five new members into his technical team as preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup ramp up.
During a press conference held at the Alisa Hotel, Asante Twum disclosed that while new expertise is being brought in, several individuals from the previous technical team will be retained to maintain continuity. Among those expected to continue from the backroom staff that worked under former head coach Otto Addo are former Black Stars players Fatau Dauda and John Paintsil.
This announcement was made as Queiroz spoke to the media for the first time since his appointment by the Ghana Football Association on April 13.
The seasoned Portuguese coach expressed his readiness to embrace the challenge of leading Ghana in the global tournament.
Queiroz, who has previously managed teams at several FIFA World Cups with Portugal and Iran, brings extensive experience to the position, having also coached prestigious clubs such as Real Madrid and Manchester United. His immediate priority will be to assemble a competitive squad and implement his tactical approach in preparation for the tournament.
Ghana is set to make its fifth appearance at the World Cup and has been placed in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia. The Black Stars will commence their campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, followed by matches against England and Croatia, as they strive to make a significant impact on the world stage.
