The government plans to build a 10,000-bed student hostel at the University of Ghana to address ongoing accommodation issues on the campus.
President Mahama announced this initiative during the opening ceremony of the University of Ghana’s 77th Annual New Year School and Conference on Tuesday, January 6, where he reiterated the government’s dedication to enhancing infrastructure in tertiary institutions.
According to President John Dramani Mahama, this project stems from an agreement made during his official visit to Singapore. He mentioned that the hostel will be constructed using prefabricated technology to ensure quicker completion and efficiency.
He revealed that preparatory activities for the project are already in progress, noting that the machinery and factory equipment required for the production of the hostel components have been dispatched from Singapore and are currently on their way to Accra.
“When I visited Singapore, we signed an agreement for a 10,000-student hostel at the University of Ghana, which will be a prefabricated structure, meaning it will be manufactured off-site and then assembled on campus. The machinery and factory equipment necessary for producing the building components have been shipped from Singapore and are presently en route to Accra,” he stated.
