A Warrant Officer Class II from the Ghana Armed Forces has been apprehended on suspicion of trying to sell firearms to a civilian.
Following an intelligence operation conducted by the Regional Director of the Ashanti South Police Intelligence Directorate (PID), ASP Princeton Peasah Darkwa, the suspect, identified as W.O. II David Kofi Brew from the 4th Battalion in Kumasi, was apprehended on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at approximately 2:30 PM at the Bekwai Shell Filling Station, where he was preparing to sell firearms to an undercover police officer.
According to a situational report issued by the Ashanti South PID, this operation was part of ongoing initiatives aimed at dismantling networks that supply weapons to criminal factions in Obuasi and its neighboring areas.
Preliminary intelligence suggested that the military officer was allegedly engaged in the illegal distribution of firearms.
In response to this information, the police opted to deploy undercover operatives to interact with the suspect on December 15, 2025, during which he arrived in a military vehicle bearing registration number 54 GA 92 to meet an agent.
Police reports indicated that the suspect informed the undercover agent of his ability to supply M16 rifles, G3 rifles, pistols, and other firearms. The undercover agent consented to purchase an M16 rifle, and the military officer quoted a price of GHC80,000.
On December 16, 2025, at around 2:30 PM, the suspect contacted the undercover agent to inform him that the gun and an additional pistol were ready for collection. He met the agent at the Bekwai Shell Filling Station, and during the transfer of the weapons, he was arrested along with the firearms.
Items seized at the time of the arrest included a TMM 22 assault rifle loaded with 99 rounds of ammunition and two 12-round magazines, as well as an Ash Taurus GX2 pistol with 100 rounds of ammunition and three 12-round magazines.
During questioning, the suspect confessed to selling weapons to individuals in and around Obuasi. He is currently in custody awaiting further proceedings and official notification to his superiors.
Efforts are being made to apprehend his accomplices for appropriate action.
