The Office of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has refuted allegations that he is attempting to meet with President John Dramani Mahama to obtain guarantees for the safe passage of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
This clarification arises amidst the ongoing legal disputes involving Mr. Ofori-Atta and various anti-corruption agencies, including the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), regarding accusations that he inflicted financial damage on the state.
In a statement released on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, the office of the former president characterized the reports as untrue and urged the public to ignore them.
“The office wishes to assert unequivocally that this publication is entirely false. It is a complete fabrication by the alleged source. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has neither considered such a request nor has he made any explicit or implicit appeal to President John Dramani Mahama,” the statement indicated.
The office reiterated that the former president is a staunch advocate of democratic values and is dedicated to upholding the rule of law. While he acknowledges his concern for Mr. Ofori-Atta due to family connections and his service during the Akufo-Addo administration, the statement clarified that this concern does not involve interfering with legal proceedings.
“Hopefully, this clarifies the situation regarding the matter,” the statement concluded.
