The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has criticized the Bono Regional Minister, Joseph Addae Akwaboa, for allegedly using his political position to intervene in the Sampa chieftaincy affairs.
On Monday, December 15, 2025, the Asantehene spoke at the final Asanteman Council meeting of 2025 at Manhyia Palace in Kumasi. He warned that political influence would not be accepted in traditional leadership matters.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II said the Bono Regional Minister, a lawyer, has a personal stake in the Sampa chieftaincy dispute.
“I will not permit him to exploit his political position to interfere in chieftaincy matters,” stated the Asantehene.
The comments made by the Asantehene underscore the importance of maintaining a clear distinction between political roles and traditional authority in Ghana, particularly in matters related to chieftaincy disputes.
