Parliament has enacted the Road Traffic Amendment Bill 2025, which legalises the use of motorcycles, tricycles, and quadricycles for commercial activities.
Additionally, the bill establishes a higher threshold for assessing alcohol concentration in drivers, aiming to decrease the occurrences of drunk driving and the accidents that result from it.
The Road Traffic Amendment Bill 2025 is anticipated to enhance road safety, generate job opportunities for the youth, and provide a thorough regulation of the road transport sector.
In the meantime, during a session in Parliament on Wednesday, December 10, the Minister for Transport, Joseph Nikpe Bukari, clarified that the amendment is designed to improve road transport services, bolster safety, and implement stricter penalties for violators.
“The Road Traffic Amendment Bill is intended to improve road transport services. We have encountered numerous issues involving road users, and this bill aims to enforce stricter penalties, improve safety protocols, and guarantee the effective and efficient utilisation of our roads,” he stated before Parliament.
