The Minority in Parliament has expressed its discontent regarding the official announcement of the Kpandai parliamentary seat being declared vacant, resulting in a suspension of the House.
This protest follows Parliament’s formal communication to the Electoral Commission on Monday, December 8, 2025, indicating that the seat had been rendered vacant, in accordance with a High Court ruling that mandated a rerun of the election for the constituency.
In a correspondence dated December 4, 2025, the Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, notified Electoral Commission Chairperson Jean Mensa that the seat was vacant as per the court ruling issued on November 24, 2025.
The matter, in which the Clerk was identified as the fourth respondent, stemmed from a legal dispute concerning the previous election in the Kpandai constituency (Suit Number NR/TL/HC/E13/22/25).
On Tuesday, December 9, 2025, Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh characterized the letter as “out of place” and “unfortunate,” asserting that it contravened the rule of law.
“Mr. Speaker, there exists a letter that was submitted to the House declaring the Kpandai seat vacant. This letter is out of place, unfortunate, and contradicts the rule of law. We firmly contend that Parliament must retract this letter. The Minority will not consent to the issuance of this letter,” he remarked.
Subsequently, members of the Minority, dressed in black, sang patriotic songs in protest of the decision and jeered at the Clerk of Parliament, Ebenezer Djietror, who attempted to restore order.
