The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has called upon the newly inaugurated Ministerial Oversight Committee for the 2026 World Cup to assume responsibility for organizing travel arrangements and ensuring that Ghana’s national reputation is maintained.
He expressed these sentiments during the inauguration of an 11-member Ministerial Oversight Committee for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, held at the Jubilee House on Wednesday, November 26, 2025.
“We assign you the task of coordinating the travel arrangements. Typically, we encounter difficulties regarding visas, and as you are aware, some individuals may attempt to exploit the system and abscond, tarnishing the country’s image,” Mr. Debrah stated.
He emphasized that the committee must provide oversight to protect Ghana’s reputation, even if not all supporters will be able to travel to the United States for the tournament.
“The committee should allocate time to meet with the relevant officials at the American Embassy to ensure that Ghanaians are permitted to travel and support their team,” he further remarked.
Moreover, the Chief of Staff also instructed the committee to ensure that Ghana’s investment potential and tourism exports are effectively showcased at the World Cup.
“This presents an opportunity for us to promote our investment potential to the global audience. Therefore, we should not solely focus on football. What aspects can we highlight through our presence there? It is essential to inform others that our country represents a viable investment opportunity. Promoting our tourism is one such aspect, and I firmly believe that if we present ourselves well, we can make Ghana proud,” he concluded.
