The Eastern Regional Minister, Mrs. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, has underscored the significant importance of youth empowerment in fostering national development during her address at the Suhum Odwira Festival in the Eastern Region.
In her speech at the Suhum Odwira Festival, Mrs. Awatey highlighted that investing in the youth is essential for the advancement of Ghana.
She outlined various government initiatives, including the expansion of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), the Youth in Agriculture program, and entrepreneurship support schemes, all designed to equip young individuals with skills that are marketable.
The minister urged young Ghanaians to take advantage of these opportunities and called upon traditional leaders to create additional avenues for youth training and mentorship.
“The youth are not merely the leaders of tomorrow; they are also active contributors today – innovators, entrepreneurs, farmers, artisans, students, creators, and custodians of our cultural identity,” she stated.
Mrs. Awatey further advocated for a self-help project to be undertaken by citizens, including those residing abroad, as a means to promote community development.
She praised the Suhum Traditional Area for its efforts in preserving cultural heritage and fostering unity.
The Chief of Suhum, Osabarima Ayeh Kofi, while addressing the theme “Youth Development is an Essential Tool for National Development,” remarked that Odwira is not solely a celebration of harvest and gratitude, but also a sacred reminder of unity, resilience, and heritage.
The festival serves as an opportunity to purify their spirits, renew their connections, and strengthen the bonds that unite their community. Osabarima Ayeh Kofi encouraged the people to utilize this occasion to honor their traditions, uplift their youth, and present the rich culture of Suhum to the world. He expressed hope that the Odwira festival would bring peace, prosperity, and joy to every household.
