The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has clarified the reports that suggest INTERPOL has rescinded a red notice alert that was issued against the former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.
In a public announcement made on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, the OSP characterized these reports as “stemming from mischief and misinformation.”
This statement follows claims from media outlets that INTERPOL had retracted the red notice after investigating the circumstances surrounding the OSP’s request, even though no formal charges have been brought against Mr. Ofori-Atta.
The OSP detailed that in October 2025, the Commission for the Control of INTERPOL’s Files informed Ghanaian authorities that Mr. Ofori-Atta had requested the removal of his name from the red notice. Ghana’s response was submitted on October 22, 2025.
Subsequent communication from the Commission on November 7, 2025, revealed that Mr. Ofori-Atta had provided additional arguments to support his application, and Ghana was asked to respond by November 21, 2025.
The proceedings are still in progress, and during this time, the applicant’s information is typically redacted from public access.
The OSP urged the public to ignore all conflicting reports, emphasizing that the matter is still under review and no conclusive decision has been reached.
