The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mubarak, has declared a delay in the nationwide recruitment exercise for security services, moving the commencement date from Saturday, November 15, to Monday, November 17.
This announcement, made on Friday, November 14, comes in the wake of the tragic event that took place at the El Wak Sports Stadium during the military recruitment process.
As stated by the Interior Minister, the recruitment exercise for the Police, Immigration, and Prisons Service will recommence on Monday, with a revised schedule anticipated to be released in national newspapers, on official social media channels, and through the relevant ministries and agencies.
“The advertisement specified that application forms would be accessible on November 15, 2025. However, due to the unfortunate incident that transpired on Wednesday during the Armed Forces recruitment process, the Ministry of the Interior, in collaboration with Security Chiefs, has opted to delay the application start date from November 15 to Monday, November 17, 2025, as a gesture of respect for the grieving families and those who sustained injuries.
He remarked, “This information will be disseminated in the national dailies, on the Ministry and its Agencies’ website, and across social media platforms.”
He elaborated that applicants can acquire vouchers either from any GCB Bank branch across the country or through a USSD code from their homes, noting that the publication will include the web address and short code information, and that the new, comprehensive centralized e-recruitment portal is intended to unify and standardize recruitment processes across all agencies of the Interior Ministry.
There are two primary methods for acquiring application vouchers. You can obtain them from any GCB Bank Branch across the nation. Alternatively, you can purchase them from the comfort of your home using the USSD dial code. The specific web address and USSD short code information will be included in the publication. The system we are implementing is a comprehensive centralized E-Recruitment Portal, a project designed to ensure the harmonization and standardization of recruitment processes across the various agencies under the Ministry of the Interior,” he stated.
In the El Wak incident, a total of 28 applicants were impacted, with 12 in critical condition, five receiving care in the Intensive Care Unit, and six confirmed deceased. Additionally, a separate recruitment exercise in Kumasi reported five injuries.
The Ministry has reassured the public that further safety measures will be put in place to avert any additional incidents as investigations into the tragedy are ongoing.
