President John Dramani Mahama has urged Ghana’s newly appointed diplomats to utilize diplomacy in promoting his administration’s reset agenda, which seeks to restore hope, rebuild trust, and foster sustainable prosperity.
During the orientation program for the diplomats held in Accra on Monday, September 1, 2025, under the theme “Harnessing the Dividends of Diplomacy for Ghana’s Reset Agenda”, President Mahama highlighted the essential role of foreign relations in facilitating national transformation.
He elaborated that the reset agenda emerged in response to the economic crisis and the decline of public confidence that Ghana faced prior to the 2024 elections.
“When Ghanaians entrusted us with the mandate in 2024, it was during a period of economic turmoil and reduced trust in our government. In light of this challenge, we initiated a reset agenda to implement a comprehensive strategy aimed at restoring hope, re-establishing trust, and reigniting prosperity,” the President stated.
At the core of this agenda, he noted, is the establishment of decent, dignified, and sustainable employment opportunities for Ghanaians.
Significant initiatives such as the 24-hour economy and the creation of a women’s development bank are already in progress.
Nevertheless, President Mahama stressed that the success of these initiatives will depend on the partnerships developed internationally.
“The capital, technology, market access, and knowledge that we attract will be crucial. This is why I am urging you, our diplomats, to ensure that every interaction abroad results in tangible opportunities for our citizens,” he conveyed to the diplomats.
The orientation session gathered Ghana’s new ambassadors, high commissioners, and consuls-general, and is part of the government’s strategy to align the nation’s diplomatic efforts with its economic transformation objectives.
