Professor Ransford Gyampo, a distinguished Political Science academic at the University of Ghana, has been appointed as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority.
This appointment, announced by President John Dramani Mahama, follows the tenure of Kwesi Baffour Sarpong, who served under the previous Akufo-Addo administration since December 2024.
Prof. Gyampo, known for his expertise in governance and public administration, is anticipated to enhance the leadership of the Authority, which is vital for overseeing Ghana’s shipping and logistics industry.
Born on March 31, 1977, in Accra, Prof. Ransford Edward Van Gyampo has established a notable career in academia, governance, and public policy, culminating in his recent role as Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority.
As a Professor of Political Science and the Founding Director of the Centre for European Studies at the University of Ghana, he brings two decades of teaching and research experience to his new position.
He earned his PhD in Political Science from the University of Ghana, furthering his studies at Tufts University in Boston, USA.
His research interests encompass governance, leadership, democratic development in Ghana and Africa, youth empowerment, natural resource management, electoral studies, maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea, and fostering resilient peace in Africa.
Prof. Gyampo has also served as a visiting scholar at the Department of Government and International Relations at the University of South Florida and as a visiting professor at the Institute of Advanced Studies at the University of Bristol, contributing significantly to international scholarship.
Prior to his current academic position, he spent 14 years at the Governance Unit of the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA-Ghana), where he advanced from Research Assistant to Senior Research Fellow.
Throughout his tenure, he led significant research initiatives focused on socio-economic issues and governance, delivering evidence-based policy recommendations aimed at tackling Ghana’s most urgent challenges.
Through his research and intellectual leadership, Prof. Gyampo has influenced national discussions, utilizing roundtables and media outlets to advocate for policy and governance reforms.
