The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has raised concerns regarding the apparent neglect of established protocols by the Appointments Committee in its review of ministerial nominees proposed by President John Dramani Mahama.
Speaker Bagbin indicated that numerous grievances have been directed to his Office, reflecting a growing dissatisfaction with the committee’s actions, which some perceive as damaging to its credibility.
In a formal address to Parliament on January 28, the Speaker underscored the importance of adhering to procedural standards to maintain the integrity of the Appointments Committee.
“The Appointments Committee has established guidelines for conducting public hearings regarding presidential nominees. However, I am uncertain if these guidelines are being referenced in the current proceedings I am observing.
“I have received a significant number of complaints from both domestic and international observers. This serves as an opportunity for me to bring this matter to your attention.”
