The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, commonly referred to as Chairman Wontumi, may be released today, Monday, June 2, 2025, contingent upon his legal team successfully addressing the obstacles that have hindered his bail.
His attorney, Andy Appiah-Kubi, conveyed a sense of optimism, indicating that the pending matters would be resolved to facilitate Wontumi’s departure from EOCO custody, where he has been detained for the last five days.
Chairman Wontumi is currently under investigation for purported financial offenses, which include fraud, money laundering, and inflicting financial loss on the state.
Despite being granted bail of GHC50 million with two approved sureties on May 28, his release has been delayed due to issues in fulfilling the bail conditions, even though these were met by May 30.
One of his legal representatives, Andy Appiah-Kubi, mentioned that all necessary measures are being undertaken to resolve the legal complications, enabling Chairman Wontumi’s bail to be enacted today.
“We faced some challenges that will be addressed on Monday, after which we will have a clean slate to proceed and strive for the desired outcome,” he remarked.
