An increasing number of employees at the Volta River Authority (VRA) have expressed strong endorsement for Mr. Ekow Obeng Kenzo as the preferred candidate for the role of Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO), highlighting his vast experience and results-oriented leadership approach.
On January 18, 2025, Mr. Obeng Kenzo was appointed as the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Volta River Authority (VRA) after a brief handover ceremony, during which the outgoing CEO, Emmanuel Antwi Darkwa, officially transferred leadership responsibilities to him.
Previously serving as the Deputy Chief Executive (Engineering & Operations) in the former administration, Mr. Kenzo gained recognition for his decisive management style and dedication to modernizing critical elements of the Authority’s infrastructure.
Numerous employees have commended his innovative strategies and his capacity to lead effectively during difficult situations, including the intricate 2023 Akosombo Dam spillage.
Insiders at the VRA have pointed out Mr. Kenzo’s pivotal role in addressing the power crisis during the transition phase, emphasizing that his tough decisions were essential to avert more significant environmental and structural hazards. Staff familiar with the operations praised his ability to make prompt decisions in a high-pressure context, ensuring the long-term safety and stability of communities surrounding the Volta Lake.
“Kenzo is focused on results. His leadership has stabilized VRA’s operations. He is a technocrat who comprehends the intricacies of the VRA, and I personally believe he is the right individual to advance the VRA, regardless of external opinions,” remarked one employee who preferred to remain anonymous.
“VRA requires continuity, and Obeng Kenzo is the reliable choice for this position. It is crucial to prioritize qualifications over political affiliations for such sensitive roles,” another staff member noted.
In contrast to previous inaccuracies, numerous employees at VRA have characterized Mr. Kenzo as a leader who is both strict and just, emphasizing the importance of efficiency and professionalism. Team members assert that his leadership has instilled a renewed sense of discipline and fostered a culture focused on achieving results within the organization.
“Mr. Kenzo encourages us to perform at our highest level. His expectations are elevated, but that is precisely what we require to advance the Authority,” remarked a senior staff member. “We are assured that with his leadership, VRA will remain a fundamental pillar of Ghana’s energy future.”
