Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the former Minister of Communications, has declared her intention to run for the position of General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in preparation for the 2028 general elections.
In a Facebook post dated Monday, October 20, 2025, which coincided with her birthday, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful shared her thoughts on the recent internal issues facing the NPP and urged party members to unite. She positioned her candidacy as part of a larger effort to reorganize the party and rebuild public trust.
“On this day of my birth, Patriots, I come before you, the fighter you have always known… I come to you in all humility, to ask you, dear patriots, to join me on this rescue mission as your next General Secretary,” she expressed.
In her reflections on the NPP’s recent internal and national difficulties, the former Minister noted that while the party has faced challenges, it remains resilient and unbroken.
Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful emphasized that the NPP’s primary objective should be to “re-shape, re-organize, and position ourselves effectively to represent the change desired and restore the faith of Ghanaians in us as the architects of growth and development.”
She ended her message with a passionate appeal for unity within the party. “Patriots, join me, let us commit to the struggle, for I know with unity and God on our side, as well as the collective will of the Ghanaian people, we shall overcome.”
