Two individuals have been apprehended in the Oti Region for allegedly transporting a firearm and a significant quantity of ammunition without legal authorization.
As per police reports, the arrests were made following intelligence received on February 7, 2026, which indicated that a Kia Rhino truck with registration number GS 4677–17 was transporting boxes of ammunition from Accra to Kpandai in the Northern Region.
Acting on the tip-off, a team of intelligence officers set up an ambush along the suspected route. On February 8, 2026, at approximately 3:30 p.m., the officers intercepted the vehicle and conducted a thorough search.
The operation led to the recovery of a locally made single-barrel shotgun and 21 boxes containing a total of 525 rounds of Lion AAA and BB ammunition.
According to the police, the firearm and ammunition were hidden among building materials being transported in the truck.
The driver, Abubakari Salam Atta, along with his mate, Kabuja Kwadwo Tademe, has been arrested in connection with this discovery.
The suspects reportedly acknowledged ownership of the firearm and ammunition.
They are presently in police custody, assisting with the investigations, while the recovered items have been secured by the police.
