The Central Regional Police Command has announced the apprehension of two individuals suspected of transporting electricity cables believed to belong to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
This announcement follows a Facebook update from Gomoa Central MP, Kwame Asare Obeng, commonly known as A Plus, who disclosed that the suspects were caught by alert residents.
The individuals, named Mohammed Sulemana and Iddrisu Basit, both serving as driver’s mates for an articulated truck, were taken into custody on April 1, 2025, in Gomoa Awombrew, located in the Central Region.
The truck, registered as GC 7410-11, was discovered parked with 28 reels of ECG cables loaded inside.
A statement from the Police indicated that ECG representatives, led by Operations Officer David Ackom, verified the ownership of the cables but mentioned that no such delivery was anticipated in the area.
The truck is currently secured under police supervision at Gomoa Awombrew, while efforts are being made to locate the truck driver, Zibo Imoro, who is presently evading capture.
This incident occurs amidst increasing scrutiny regarding the disappearance of over 1,300 containers of ECG materials at the Tema Port. Following an intelligence-driven operation by National Security, 14 individuals, including four Ghanaians and ten Chinese nationals, have been detained and are cooperating with the ongoing investigations.
