The management of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has suspended two medical doctors and two nurses due to their alleged negligence in providing emergency medical assistance to a hit-and-run victim who subsequently passed away.
In a press release issued on Monday, February 23, 2026, the hospital confirmed that the staff members had been suspended in accordance with established administrative protocols.
A committee has been formed to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the events leading up to the incident and the victim’s subsequent death.
The deceased, 29-year-old Charles Amissah, an engineer employed by Promasidor Ghana Limited, suffered serious shoulder injuries in a hit-and-run incident at the Circle Overpass in Accra on February 6, 2026.
He was stabilized by Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel and prepared for transfer to a hospital for additional treatment.
Reports suggest that Amissah was unable to gain admission at the Police Hospital, Ridge Hospital, and Korle Bu Teaching Hospital due to a shortage of available beds. While at Korle Bu, he reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest and died.
The management of the hospital indicated that, pending the results of the committee’s investigation, it anticipates full cooperation from all individuals involved in the matter to facilitate a fair and transparent inquiry.
Korle Bu Teaching Hospital reiterated its dedication to transparency, accountability, and the provision of high-quality healthcare services, stating that further updates will be provided upon the conclusion of the investigation.
