The Ghana Chamber of Mines has contributed GHS1,680,000 to the Ghana Air Force (GAF), fulfilling its promised financial assistance for the refurbishment of aircraft designated for national missions.
This donation constitutes the final portion of a US$300,000 commitment made by the Chamber to enhance the operational readiness of the Ghana Air Force.
The allocated funds are aimed at aiding the refurbishment of aircraft utilized for essential national responsibilities, which encompass security operations, surveillance, and emergency response.
A delegation from the Ghana Air Force visited the Chamber’s Secretariat to officially receive the final donation, signifying the completion of the commitment initially announced in 2024.
During the presentation, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, Ing. Dr. Kenneth Ashigbey, stated that the donation signifies the mining industry’s recognition of the crucial role the Ghana Air Force plays in protecting the nation.
“The advancement of this country is of utmost importance to the Chamber. The Ghana Air Force is instrumental in ensuring national security and facilitating emergency and strategic operations throughout the country. A stable and secure nation is vital for sustainable development, including the expansion of the mining sector. This contribution is our modest effort to bolster that capability,” the CEO remarked.
Ing. Ashigbey recalled that the Chamber made its initial US$150,000 donation in 2024 at the Air Force Base in Accra, underscoring the Chamber’s commitment to fulfilling its pledge in its entirety.
In receiving the donation on behalf of the Ghana Air Force, Air Commodore Elvis King Arneson, Base Commander of Air Force Base (AFB) Accra, conveyed gratitude to the Chamber for its ongoing support.
“This prompt assistance from the Ghana Chamber of Mines will greatly bolster our aircraft refurbishment initiatives and enhance our preparedness for national duties. We appreciate the Chamber’s collaboration and its acknowledgment of the Air Force’s contribution to national development and security,” stated Air Commodore Arneson.
He further emphasized that partnerships between governmental bodies and the private sector are essential for developing robust national security capabilities.
The interaction underscored the strong institutional bond between the Ghana Chamber of Mines and the Ghana Air Force. It reaffirmed the significance of cooperation between the public and private sectors in promoting Ghana’s national interests.
