The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has declared the appointment of Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Manso Opuni as its new Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective from Monday, July 14, 2025.
Prof. Opuni succeeds Dr. Delese Mimi Darko, who has held the CEO position since 2017. Dr. Darko has recently been appointed as the Director General of the Africa Medicines Agency (AMA), which represents a significant achievement in her esteemed career in public health leadership.
Before assuming his new position, Prof. Opuni was the Board Chairman of the FDA, where he accumulated extensive experience in public health policy, regulatory oversight, and institutional governance.
In an official statement, the FDA conveyed its heartfelt congratulations to Prof. Opuni and expressed its confidence in his capability to guide the Authority in accomplishing its mission of protecting public health and safety.
Prof. Opuni’s appointment occurs at a crucial time when the Authority is dedicated to fortifying regulatory systems, improving consumer protection, and ensuring the safety and effectiveness of food, drugs, and other regulated products in Ghana.
