The Ghana Police Service has successfully intercepted a truck carrying over 3,000 slabs of plant material believed to be narcotic drugs in the Greater Accra Region, as a result of an intelligence-driven operation.
As stated in a press release from the Tema Regional Police Command dated February 18, the operation occurred in the early hours of February 15, 2026.
According to police reports, at approximately 12:10 a.m., officers from the Regional Patrols Unit stopped a Sinotruk tipper truck with the registration number GN 993-14 at Sege Akpla Manya.
The vehicle, which was initially reported to be loaded with fertilizer sacks, was discovered to contain 3,009 slabs of plant material suspected to be cannabis. Upon noticing the police presence, the driver reportedly abandoned the truck and fled the scene.
The truck and its cargo have been seized and taken to the Tema Regional Headquarters to aid in ongoing investigations. Authorities are actively working to apprehend the driver and determine the vehicle’s ownership.
In a related incident, police reported that on February 16 at around 7:10 p.m., two individuals — Victor Asigbey, aged 40, and Peter Asigbey, aged 35 — were arrested for allegedly attempting to bribe officers at the Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Office in Tema.
The suspects are accused of offering GH¢150,000 in cash in an effort to persuade officers to release both the vehicle and the suspected narcotics. The cash has been recovered and is being held as evidence.
The two men are currently in police custody, cooperating with the investigation, and are expected to be brought before the court.
The Tema Regional Police Command has reaffirmed its dedication to fighting narcotics-related crimes and maintaining integrity in the execution of its responsibilities.
