The Ghana Police Service has apprehended two individuals suspected of street robbery following an intelligence-driven patrol operation in Dzorwulu, Accra.
As per a press release from the Accra Regional Police Command, the suspects were taken into custody by officers from the Kotobabi District Police Command after being observed riding an unregistered black Royal 125 motorbike during a routine patrol on Wednesday, January 14, 2026.
The suspects have been identified as Stephen Gletsu, 37, who was operating the motorbike, and Mohammed Sheriff, 20, who was riding as a passenger. The police reported that both individuals were clad in all-black clothing and black helmets, with the pillion rider seen brandishing a cutlass.
Upon noticing the patrol unit, the suspects allegedly accelerated away, prompting a chase. During the pursuit, warning shots were discharged, which caused the suspects to lose control of the motorbike and crash near Roman Ridge, adjacent to the Nigerian High Commission. The police indicated that the suspects suffered varying degrees of injuries during their arrest and received treatment at the Police Hospital before being released.
During questioning, the suspects confessed to their involvement in the robbery and admitted to attacking and robbing numerous unsuspecting victims throughout the Accra Metropolis.
Victims have since provided statements identifying both suspects and their stolen mobile devices. The victims recounted being assaulted with a machete and robbed of their phones, money, and other valuables.
