Parliament has sanctioned the appointments of Mahama Ayariga and Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings as Ministers for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, and Environment, Science and Technology, respectively.
These approvals came after their evaluation by Parliament’s Appointments Committee, which is a constitutional requirement for reviewing presidential nominees for ministerial roles.
Mahama Ayariga, who has previously held the positions of Majority Leader and Chairman of Parliament’s Business Committee, was nominated by President John Dramani Mahama to lead the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings has been appointed as Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, tasked with overseeing critical areas such as environmental protection, scientific research, technological advancement, and policies aimed at addressing environmental issues.
Both nominees presented themselves before the Appointments Committee on Thursday, August 27, where they were evaluated based on their qualifications, experience, and appropriateness for their designated roles.
The Committee later recommended their approval, allowing Parliament to review and endorse their nominations.
These approvals are part of President Mahama’s ongoing adjustments to his ministerial team as his administration aims to further its policy objectives in local governance, environmental protection, science, and technology.
Mr. Ayariga is anticipated to leverage his parliamentary and political expertise in the Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs sector, while Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings will manage the government’s initiatives on environmental sustainability, scientific progress, and technological development.
