Ibrahim Sannie Daara, the former Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has urged Black Stars head coach Otto Addo to foster a heightened sense of competition within the national team.
In recent weeks, the Black Stars have encountered increasing criticism due to their inconsistent performances in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Ghana managed a 1-1 draw against Chad and narrowly defeated Mali 1-0 during the September international window, results that have left many in the public skeptical.
In an interview, Sannie Daara, who currently holds the position of senior CAF Media Officer, emphasized the importance of enhanced squad depth and accountability.
“On a typical day for the Black Stars, some of the current players would not receive a call-up,” he remarked.
“There should be three players competing for every position in the Black Stars to ignite a strong competitive spirit within the team.”
He further contended that underperformance should not be overlooked, asserting that players who do not meet expectations must face repercussions.
“There must be consequences for any Black Stars player who underperforms after being called up, and that is how we cultivate a competitive spirit in a team,” he added.
The Black Stars are set to wrap up their World Cup qualifying campaign next month with vital matches against the Central African Republic and Comoros.
