The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has provided clarification regarding the circumstances of the arrest, detention, and subsequent release of private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu.
Sammy Darko, the Director of Strategy, Communication, and Research at the OSP, stated that Kpebu has interacted with their personnel in a manner the OSP considered inappropriate while they perform their lawful duties.
Mr. Kpebu was taken into custody at the Office of the Special Prosecutor on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, after being reportedly charged with obstructing an officer in the execution of his duties. This incident followed his invitation to the Office concerning certain allegations he made against the Special Prosecutor. He was released later that evening.
In a statement posted on his Facebook page, Mr. Sammy Darko remarked, “This is not the first—or even the second—instance of Mr. Kpebu interacting with OSP security personnel in a manner the OSP viewed as improper while they carry out their lawful duties. After each occurrence, he presents a different narrative in public.
Observing this pattern over time, it became important to document interactions to ensure transparency. An example is his statement that there were 16 petitions for the removal of the Special Prosecutor. When later questioned by KSM, he acknowledged that he was repeating information he had heard on Newsfile, without verifying it. This raises concerns about the accuracy of some statements he has made.”
The altercation at the OSP is unrelated to the current investigation regarding the unfounded accusations he has leveled against the SP and the Office. He persists in asserting that he is “collecting evidence” and will ultimately submit it to an OSP Board—despite being aware that no board is presently established.
This conduct adheres to a recognizable pattern: he declines to collaborate, insists on the removal of specific officers from the panel, achieves his request, and subsequently presents a new hindrance. Fortunately, the investigators have maintained their professionalism in their work, notwithstanding his uncooperative and abusive behavior.
