The 15-year prison sentence that was originally imposed on the controversial evangelist Nana Agradaa has now been reduced to a duration of 12 calendar months. This decision was made by the Amasaman High Court, which determined that the initial punishment was excessively harsh.
In its ruling, the court upheld her conviction but chose to exercise its discretion to modify the sentence, decreasing it from the previously imposed 15 years of hard labor by the trial court.
The new sentence will commence on July 3, 2025, the date of her conviction, indicating that Nana Agradaa will spend a total of 12 months in prison.
The court concluded that while the offenses for which she was found guilty warranted a penalty, the harshness of the original sentence was disproportionate given the circumstances, thus justifying a reduction.
Nana Agradaa, who transitioned from being a fetish priestess to an evangelist, was convicted of fraudulent advertisement and defrauding by false pretenses.
She was found guilty of deceiving victims through a televised broadcast in 2022, during which she falsely asserted that she had spiritual abilities capable of doubling their money.
Her assertions caused numerous individuals to part with significant amounts of money, all in the hope of receiving miraculous financial returns—returns that were ultimately never realized.
