The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, has presented 10 new Nissan Navara pick-up vehicles to the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) as part of initiatives aimed at enhancing the Commission’s operational capabilities in the fight against drug trafficking and associated crimes.
According to the Minister, this initiative is designed to boost NACOC’s mobility, response times, and overall efficiency, especially as drug-related activities become more sophisticated throughout the nation.
During the handover ceremony on Monday, February 2, Mr. Muntaka stated that the government’s provision of essential logistics to state security agencies, including NACOC, is part of a comprehensive national strategy to improve national security, safeguard public health, and disrupt organized criminal networks. He reiterated the government’s dedication to the ongoing enhancement of security institutions, emphasizing that improved logistics are crucial for ensuring swift responses and effective operations across the country.
“The drug market is evolving, with tramadol representing 23% of confiscated medicines and psychotropic substances, while the remaining 77% indicates a growing variety of other psychotropic substances.
“It is in this context that the Narcotics Control Commission has intensified its targeted narcotics patrols during the festive season,” he remarked.
