The overall value of mobile money transactions for the initial two months of 2025 reached GH¢649.2 billion, marking a significant year-on-year increase of 64.68%.
In comparison, the total value for the same period in 2024 was approximately GH¢394.2 billion.
Data from the Bank of Ghana indicates that mobile money transactions amounted to GH¢333 billion in January 2025, although this figure declined to GH¢316.2 billion in February 2025.
This decline occurred despite the recent repeal of the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-levy) by the new government.
Analysts predict a further rise in mobile money transactions, which is expected to enhance the financial technology sector. Additionally, the number of registered mobile money accounts has grown to 74.1 million, up from 66.9 million in the same timeframe last year.
While the total number of registered agents is estimated at 896,000, only 411,000 are currently active. In 2024, mobile money transactions reached a record high of GH¢3.0192 trillion, reflecting a year-on-year growth of approximately 57.90%.
