The Mobile Money Advocacy Group Ghana (MoMAG) has expressed significant alarm regarding the rising incidents of violence against mobile money agents, with the most recent event taking place in Bolgatanga.
Armed assailants targeted a mobile money service point, absconding with an undisclosed amount of cash.
This incident follows the unfortunate fatalities of two mobile money agents in separate occurrences in Krofrom and Manso-Asamang within the Ashanti Region.
In an interview with Citi News, MoMAG President Edward Ofori Agyemang called on law enforcement agencies to enhance their protective measures for agents.
“It is quite concerning given the educational initiatives that the association is providing to mobile money agents. The situation in Bolgatanga highlights a lack of effective security, as there are no burglar-proof installations, making it easy for robbers to strike,” he stated.
“This is indeed troubling. We are also appealing to security agencies to increase their presence. Their visibility needs to be heightened.”
He underscored the urgent requirement for enhanced security protocols to safeguard mobile money agents throughout the nation.
