President John Dramani Mahama has officially established a 12-member Presidential Advisory Group on the Economy, which is charged with offering strategic guidance and policy recommendations regarding the management and transformation of Ghana’s economy.
The committee is anticipated to evaluate the current economic landscape and propose measures designed to stabilize the macroeconomic environment, enhance investor confidence, and promote inclusive growth.
Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang is included in the group, which also features esteemed economist and private sector leader Kwame Pianim, along with the distinguished private sector leader and industrialist Sir Samuel Esson Jonah.
Additional members consist of Mr. Ishmael Yamson, a private sector leader and former member of PAGE; Nana Oye Mansa Yeboaa, a former Deputy Minister of Finance, Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, and former PAGE member; Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, an economist, former Governor of the Bank of Ghana, and former Minister for Finance; and Ato Brown, a former World Bank Infrastructure Specialist and Agribusiness Investor.
The advisory group further includes Dr. Henry A. Kofi Wampah, a former Governor of the Bank of Ghana; Togbe Afede XIV, an economist and private sector leader; Ms. Abena Amoah, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Stock Exchange; Prof. Priscilla Twumasi Baffour, a University Professor and Academic Researcher; and Prof. Patience Aseweh Abor, Ph.D., a University Professor and Academic Researcher.
During the inauguration ceremony held on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, President Mahama emphasized the significance of coordinated economic planning and evidence-based policy-making to tackle existing challenges.
He remarked that the committee’s efforts would bolster the government’s overarching agenda of strengthening local enterprises, improving productivity, and ensuring sustainable development.
“I wish to clarify that my optimism regarding the advice you will provide should not be interpreted by this committee as an indication of an uncomplicated journey ahead. You are well aware that we are confronted with significant challenges, irrespective of the advancements we may have recorded today,” he stated.
He encouraged the committee members to leverage their expertise and experience in suggesting practical and progressive solutions.
The committee is anticipated to collaborate closely with pertinent ministries, departments, and agencies to ensure that its recommendations are in harmony with national development priorities.
