President John Dramani Mahama has put forward five individuals for appointment to Ghana’s Fiscal Council.
The nominations, which were revealed in a statement from Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the President’s Spokesperson and Minister for Government Communications, on Wednesday, April 8, are part of initiatives aimed at reinforcing fiscal discipline and improving oversight of public finances.
As stated, the nominations were made in accordance with Section 11D of the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921), as amended by the Public Financial Management (Amendment) Act, 2025 (Act 1136).
The Fiscal Council is anticipated to play a vital role in fostering transparency, accountability, and sound economic decision-making.
Dr. Emmanuel Oteng Kumah leads the list of nominees, having been appointed as Chairperson of the Council.
Joining Dr. Kumah is Professor Patrick Opoku Asuming, who will act as the academic representative, contributing significant expertise in economic research and policy analysis.
Also included is Leslie Dwight Mensah, selected to represent a research think tank, thereby providing a policy-focused viewpoint to the Council’s activities.
Additionally, J. Kweku Bedu-Addo, a former public policy expert from the Finance Ministry, has been nominated, along with Dr. Henry Akpenamawu Kofi Wampah, a former public policy expert from the Bank of Ghana.
