A significant security presence has been established at Laboma Beach as officials prepare for a substantial demolition operation aimed at mitigating ongoing flooding issues in various areas of Accra.
This initiative, spearheaded by the Greater Accra Regional Security Council (REGSEC), comes in the wake of recent clean-up efforts, drain desilting, and previous demolitions conducted following the catastrophic floods on June 29 that impacted numerous regions of the capital.
On Friday, security personnel, including police and military members, were deployed around the vicinity in anticipation of the operation, limiting access to certain parts of the beach while officials organized the demolition preparations.
The forthcoming operation is set to focus on unauthorized constructions within the area as authorities enhance efforts to restore natural drainage systems and diminish the likelihood of flooding, especially during the height of the rainy season.
Officials have consistently emphasized that constructions on waterways, wetlands, and other unauthorized sites significantly contribute to flooding and have cautioned that enforcement measures will persist in affected regions.
The Greater Accra Regional Security Council has reiterated that the purpose of this operation is to protect lives and property by ensuring adherence to planning and environmental regulations.
