The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has dispatched additional security personnel and armored vehicles to Nkwanta in the Oti Region due to a resurgence of violent attacks in the vicinity.
In a statement released by the Oti Regional Police Headquarters in Dambai on Thursday, March 26, the Police indicated that the IGP mandated the deployment of two armored vehicles along with officers from the National Police Operations unit on the night of Wednesday to enhance security measures.
According to the statement, this action has contributed to restoring peace in the Nkwanta South Municipality, with the situation now under control.
Nevertheless, five bodies have been recovered following the attacks. The deceased, who include three males and two females, were discovered at two different sites by a collaborative team of personnel from the Police, Military, Bureau of National Intelligence (BNI), Defence Intelligence, and the Ghana National Fire Service.
Investigations have commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and to identify and apprehend the offenders.
The Police have urged the residents of Nkwanta and surrounding communities to remain composed and assist security agencies by providing pertinent information to facilitate ongoing investigations.
The statement, signed by Deputy Superintendent John Nchor, also warned against the dissemination of misinformation and any actions that could exacerbate tensions in the area.
