Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has voiced his dissatisfaction with the performance of Black Stars coach Otto Addo, warning that Ghana’s national team has considerable work ahead to secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
His comments contribute to the increasing pressure on the Black Stars’ technical team to achieve consistent results and restore confidence within the squad in anticipation of important tournaments.
On Friday, September 5, the Black Stars played to a 1-1 draw against Chad, followed by a narrow 1-0 victory over Mali on Monday, September 8.
Despite the win, Mr. Adams maintained that the team’s performance was still unconvincing.
In an interview on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, he expressed his concerns regarding Ghana’s erratic performances in the ongoing World Cup qualifiers.
“AFCON is approaching soon in Morocco. Will we be participating? No, we will be spectators on TV. We have not yet qualified for the World Cup. We still require a win and at least a draw to confidently assert that, within our group, no one can surpass us,” he stated.
The Sports Minister emphasized that Otto Addo’s performance does not merit commendation given the current situation.
“If I were to say I am impressed, it would indicate that I am not fulfilling my responsibilities. I am not impressed. There is ample room for improvement. Even when you speak to the coach himself, he acknowledges his mistakes and accepts responsibility. However, the question remains: how long will you continue to accept blame for poor decisions?” he inquired.
