Mona Faiz Montrage, a Ghanaian socialite and musician known as Hajia 4Reall, is scheduled to be released from the Federal Detention Center in Philadelphia after completing a prison sentence of one year and one day.
According to the inmate locator of the US Federal Bureau of Prisons, the 32-year-old is set to be freed on May 22, 2025.
Montrage was found guilty of conspiracy to receive stolen funds associated with a criminal network in West Africa that engaged in romance scams and internet fraud.
Gaining prominence through her Instagram account ‘Hajia4Reall,’ which boasts over 3.4 million followers, she was extradited from the United Kingdom to the United States in May 2023.
In February 2024, she entered a guilty plea, and on June 28, 2024, U.S. District Judge J. Paul Oetken imposed her sentence.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York disclosed that the criminal group deceived vulnerable elderly Americans out of more than $2 million.
Montrage personally received funds from approximately 40 victims via U.S.-based bank accounts that were set up under false pretenses.
The fraudulent activities included charges for transporting gold, resolving fictitious FBI investigations, and aiding a phony U.S. Army officer in accessing funds. Court records indicate that Montrage managed bank accounts that accumulated over $2 million in illegal proceeds.
Besides her prison sentence, she was also given three years of supervised release, mandated to forfeit $216,475, and required to pay restitution totaling $1,387,458.
Her legal representatives have communicated to the court her intention to return to Ghana and embark on a new beginning, aiming to make a positive contribution to society.
