Ghana Water Ltd. (GWL) has declared a temporary closure of the Weija Treatment Plant in the Accra West Region to facilitate emergency repairs on significant pipelines that provide water to various parts of western Accra.
The closure commenced at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2, and is anticipated to continue until 5:00 p.m., leading to interruptions in water supply across multiple communities.
The communities impacted include: Korle-Bu, Dansoman, Mamprobi, sections of Weija, Gbawe, Malam, Anyaa, Kwashieman, Ablekuma, Darkuman, Kaneshie, Tesano, Odorkor, Sowutuom, Lapaz, portions of Achimota, North Industrial Area, and surrounding areas.
As stated by the company, this shutdown is essential to rectify critical issues within its pipeline network to avert further damage and to guarantee long-term reliability of service.
“Our engineers are present on-site, diligently working to ensure that the repairs are completed within the scheduled timeframe,” GWL mentioned in a statement released on Wednesday morning.
The utility provider has expressed regret for the inconvenience caused and has assured the public that the normal water supply will resume promptly following the completion of repairs. Residents in the affected regions are encouraged to conserve water during this interruption.
